hey there awang, long time i didnt browse through your blog. i’ve been very busy lately, and finals are just around the corner. wish me the best of luck! anyway, i’ve been thinking alot these days, not about malaysian politics particularly, but i’m more concerns about what’s happening in the middle-east especially the relations between Israel and Palestine. you see, i’ve been reading this articles in this so called political and advocacy journalism online, (i dont know if you ever heard/read of a magazine named “The Economist”) and i found out that it is terribly and extremely disturbing.

as far as i’ve gone through many discussions and debates about terrorism and Islam. it is apparent that we all have our opinions on whether or not Islam is a religion of peace, why terrorists are ‘mostly Muslim’ and so on.

i thought that this needed to be said: Islam is a peaceful religion. many argued that this point is open to interpretation and that is essentially the problem. i beg to differ. if one studies Islam in detail as it should be studied, it would be found that Islam preaches good character, mercy and tolerance. as the Prophet Muhammed S.A.W said:

“Those who show mercy have God’s mercy shown to them. Have mercy on those here on earth, and the One there in Jannah will have mercy on you” ~~ Imam Ahmad, translated by Hamza Yusuf.

judging by the recent events, this is not what is happening. but that just goes to show that the people committing these heinous acts of terror are looking at Islam through a blind man’s eyes. Islam needs detailed study and a sound knowledge of Arabic grammar, because a tiny symbol can change the entire meaning of a word. one should not derive an opinion by reading a book or a few sayings. even a native Arabic speaker should not interpret the Qur’an according to his understanding, as classical Arabic has significant differences compared with regional Arabic.

furthermore, Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi, the grand imam of Al-Azhar University of Cairo, in Mesir said of the 9/11 attacks (ref: http://www.beliefnet.com/story/111/story_11133_1.html), that:

“It’s not courage in any way to kill an innocent person, or to kill thousands of people, including men and women and children”

that said, i know i can do little to influence or change anyone’s opinion. i only ask, that as members of humanity, regardless of nationality or religion, we tolerate each other and fight our own prejudices. it is easy to stereotype and see all Muslims as terrorists and all Arabs as blind followers of a violent regime. but the groups and individuals responsible for these acts make up less than a fraction of the entire Muslim population. do not convict us of crimes we did not commit with opinions we do not deserve.

i’m sorry, i’m here not to preached but i just need different people’s views on this related matters. let me know about your opinions as soon as you can. i’ll catch with you later! buh-hye!
